SIP Trunks are high capacity voice connections to connect your existing office phone equipment (PBX or Call Centre) to the public telephone network (via Microtalk's communication cloud).
Microtalk SIP Trunks are a direct, standards-based replacement to PRI / ISDN / T1 lines. In the UK over 80% of ISDN lines are forecast to have been replaced by SIP Trunks by 2019.
SIP Trunks connect directly to IP business phone systems, such as Asterisk.
Depending on your PBX, it may be possible to install a SIP interface card.
If your PBX does not support a direct SIP interface, off-the-shelf SIP to PRI / ISDN / T1 convertor boxes are readily available.
Microtalk SIP Trunks have many advantages over PRI / ISDN / T1 lines.
SIP Trunks enable the addition of advanced features without upgrading your current PBX systems. Microtalk SIP Trunk 2.0 supports Virtual Private Networks of existing PBXs for seamless and free extension to extension calling. SIP Trunks are lower cost than PRI / ISDN / T1 lines, support rationalisation of your number management, are easily saleable (up or down, with the click of a mouse) and have in-built disaster recovery capability. See Benefits for more details.
SIP Trunks are delivered over standard internet connections - the greater the bandwidth, the greater the number of voice channels supported.
Since voice traffic has equal bandwidth requirements in both directions (upload and download) then Ethernet and Internet Leased Line products are best-suited for SIP Trunk connectivity.
